The six-year heritage programme Disclosing Architecture will conclude at the end of 2024. During the closing event on 14 November, we will share the knowledge and insights generated by the programme.

15 October marks exactly 100 years since the legendary De Stijl exhibition opened at Galerie L’Effort Moderne in Paris. It was the first group exhibition of artists from De Stijl.

The buildings we live, work and spend time in affect our health. From 10 June, Nieuwe Instituut and partners present an exhibition at the Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen that explores the relationship between (healthcare) architecture, sustainability and wellness.

The Other Interface is the working title for a new collection platform that seeks to provide a visual, narrative, and future-proof online environment for connecting people with the National Collection for Dutch Architecture and Urban Planning.

During the first phase of the Disclosing Architecture programme, filmmaker Marit Geluk made Curating Decay, a documentary about the restoration and conservation of the Van Doesburg collection.

Photographer Johannes Schwartz asked Collection staff members of Het Nieuwe Instituut about their favourite archive pieces. He then photographed them, putting together the series that you can see all over the building.

The Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE) has been called in to provide support in drawing up a lighting policy, including a lighting plan for exhibitions and a loan protocol, in order to permanently guarantee the visibility of the Van Doesbug collection.

The collection contains an estimated 300,000 photo prints. The 1923 photogram, 4/i/Lampe Heliokonstruktion 125 Volt by El Lissitzky and Vilmos Húszar, is a special and rather atypical example, which at the same time illustrates the value of the photo collection as a primary source. The work is part of the estate of architect and urban planner Cornelis van Eesteren who was in the De Stijl circle.

The Foundation for the Conservation of Contemporary Art (SBMK) has brought together 16 museums, including Het Nieuwe Instituut, for Collection Knowledge 2.0/Photography, which aims to preserve photography permanently and keep it publicly accessible.

The digitisation of the collection has now undergone considerable professionalisation and acceleration as part of the six-year Disclosing Architecture programme.

To expand our understanding of photographic processes and the conservation of modern photography, the Nieuwe Instituut is participating in Collection Knowledge 2.0 - Photography, A series of identification days will take place in the Nieuwe Instituut in July.
