Re_Making
Sunday 19 June from 16:00 - 18:00 marks the opening of the exhibition 'Re_Making' at Foundation B.a.d., about the remarkable and forgotten practices of photography and film. Part of this window exhibition is the project _Retake _by Brittany Brighouse, Janou Munnik and Eelco Roelsma, digitisation specialists of Het Nieuwe Instituut. _Retake _shows the unexpected and colourful results; the 'happy accidents' of the digitisation process.

Het Nieuwe Instituut houses and maintains a collection of about four million documents. Occasionally, so-called 'Happy Accidents' occur during the process of photographing and digitising the National Collection for Dutch Architecture and Urban Planning. Think for instance of scans that are the result of overexposure, glitches, movement during scanning, moiré or files that are too large. This results in images that are not useful for research, but that do show the complexity of converting analogue archive material to a digital file.
_Retake _shows these unexpected and colourful results of the digitisation process. Does a digital file still possess some form of physical materiality? What happens when the digital is made analogue again? The results illustrate the process of re-imagining material objects within the digital domain.

Window exhibition Re_Making
Besides the project Retake, the exhibition shows contributions by Peter Domankiewicz Carpenter, Jo Gane and Carolin Lange. All six participants are specialised in working with archive material. The pieces show strange and forgotten practices of photography and film, the side paths of colour photography, mistakes in science and errors during digitisation. The window exhibition, on show until 31 July, is visible day and night and covers 19 windows.
Foundation B.a.d.
Foundation B.a.d. is an artists' initiative in Rotterdam, established since 1991 in a former girls' school, De Wiekslag, by architects Kuiper, Gouwetor & De Ranitz (1955).
