CANCELLED. Studio Visits is a series of evenings dedicated to contemporary architectural practice, its challenges and possibilities. After standing still for over a year, we're making a big splash with a Studio Visit+ at none other than MVRDV, for Members only!

AFARAI is an Amsterdam-based architecture agency led by Afaina de Jong. This studio visit investigates the various techniques and tools for accommodating difference in spatial design.

Italy, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Lebanon, Switzerland and Israel are some of the recent contexts in which Inside Outside created its characteristic inside, outside, and in-between environments.

The architects of Team Paul de Vroom + Sputnik have a shared interest in typological research, thinking in terms of models and the urge to translate their ideas into buildings. Each design project begins with a quest for the most appropriate type. That search is perhaps best described as laboratory work, in which floor plans are sometimes tested at actual scale before being elaborated further in drawings.

Shift's three partners will reflect upon their practice's last eight years: from the freedom - or rather the lack of obligation - to carry out self-initiated design research in the crisis period to the quest for architectural freedom within today's 'hermetic' commercial building commissions, and everything in between.

After an introduction by head urban planner Mattijs van Ruijven, urban planner Maurice Boumans will illustrate the team's working method in relation to the development of Katendrecht. Then urban planner Esther Heemskerk will talk about Rotterdam's architecture policy. Finally, the group will assemble for a discussion around the model of the city centre.

In this studio visit, the co-founders of Casanova + Hernandez will reflect on their practice on the basis of their latest work, which will illustrate the studio's multidisciplinary approach. This is characterized by a strong desire to introduce broader-than-usual perspectives that go beyond the initial design brief.
