Opening hours

The library collection on open display is available for consultation during the museum’s opening hours.

If you wish to speak with a member of staff or consult archival materials, please visit on days when services are available. In April and May 2026, these are:

  • April: Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 14:00
  • May: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 14:00

To consult archival materials, we ask that you make an appointment in advance for one of these time slots at collection@nieuweinstituut.nl.

Reserving archive materials

  • Please make your reservation at least 72 hours in advance. We would like to receive an application for Tuesday at least Thursday the week before. You can do this by sending an email with the inventory numbers you want to view to collection@nieuweinstituut.nl. You can choose archive material in our inventory via our Search Portal.
  • In addition to the documents you want to view, you should include the following details in your email: desired date of visit and a second option, desired time slot(s) and any other comments.
  • You will receive a confirmation of your appointment. Without this confirmation, your reservation is not valid.

If you have any questions, please contact the Re-Centre by sending an email to collection@nieuweinstituut.nl.

Consulting the library collection

The library collection is not available for loan and can only be consulted on site. While you can make an appointment in advance, this is not required.

  • Publications that are kept in the depot will be collected for you to peruse at the Re-Centre, after you complete an application form.
  • If you wish to view a large number of publications from the depot, we recommend sending an email to collection@nieuweinstituut.nl in advance.

Reproductions

If you want to scan pages from our library collection you'll be able to use the book scanners available. The files can be sent to the computers in the Re-Centre or saved on a USB stick.

Groups

Groups are welcome at the Re-Centre. However, we do ask you to register a group (more than two people) in advance by mailing collection@nieuweinstituut.nl. The general rules for reserving archival materials apply.
