The New Academy
After Summer School 2026
After Summer School returns! From 23 to 26 September, Rotterdam transforms into a classroom where a wide variety of makers, researchers and other knowledge producers share their ways of working. By looking, listening, archiving, collaborating, activating, researching, designing and walking differently, you get to work with the urban knowledge and expertise that can change the city. The full programme of this third edition will be announced in August, but a limited number of passe-partout tickets is now available.
Programme 2026
The theme and full programme of this edition will be announced later this summer. This year's contributors include (A)Wake, Afrikaanderwijk Coöperatie, Buitenplaats Brienenoord, Colette Aliman, Di Fang, Independent School for the City, Loom, Nieuwe Instituut, OMI, Rosi Braidotti, Stadspark West, Varia and Verhalenhuis Belvédère. New this year are city classes by Convivium, Janilda Bartolomeu, Karin Christof, Pauluskerk and We Worknot x COOPIA.
Passe-partouts zijn nu beschikbaar
A limited number of passe-partouts is now available — only until 31 July and while supply lasts. For €45, a passe-partout gives you access to up to ten city classes of your choice (regular price: €7,50 per class).
Tickets for separate classes will go on sale once the full programme is announced. Leave your email address here if you want to be kept informed.
The New Academy
After Summer School is part of The New Academy, an initiative of the Nieuwe Instituut in collaboration with philosopher Rosi Braidotti that reimagines Rotterdam as a knowledge city. It aims to create a local platform for new ways of learning to address complex social, technological and ecological challenges together. It is centred around knowledge that is city-based, minoritarian, more-than-human, and embodied. As one of its activities, The New Academy develops a Curriculum for Change: a series of courses, talks, workshops and other activities that show and teach a plural, inclusive and interdisciplinary (design) approach to the city.
