After Summer School: Tuesday

During the After Summer School, over 20 public classes will take place throughout the city, presenting Rotterdam as a hub for knowledge that deserves to be recognised and included in the city development. Day two of the After Summer School, themed ‘Narrative’, features Verhalenhuis Belvédère, Architectuur MAKEN, Vers Beton, Niels Spaans, and Stadspark West.

1 October 2024 08:30 - 20:00

How are different forms of knowledge in Rotterdam gathered and valued? Dominant forms knowledge don't always truly represent the history and identity of the city. On day two of the After Summer School, we explore new ways of preserving and sharing different forms of knowledge in a diverse and non-hierarchical manner. What happens when we put minority perspectives at the center of shaping the city's present and future?

This course, led by Niels Spaans, explores how the stories behind the materials can reveal greater significance than the objects themselves. Using a variety of methodologies and documentation techniques, you will uncover and share unique, moving narratives that highlight the broader value of the collection.

Voices from In-Between (19:00-22:00)

  • By Anne Karin ten Bosch
  • Location: Stadspark West
  • Starting point: allotmentgarden Tot Nut en Genoegen (Daltonlaan 5, 3041 JB Rotterdam)
  • Note: bring ‘working clothes’ that may get wet or dirty, and water and dirt-proof shoes or boots. We’ll also work outside when it rains.
  • Language: Dutch

Join scenographer and designer Anne Karin ten Bosch as she navigates the edges of Stadspark West, a ‘fictional’ community park that already exists. These spaces, which exist ‘in-between’ the city, are bearers of urban nature and crucial for well-being in the surrounding cityscape, which is mostly made of concrete and brick. Listening to each other, learning about the meanings of places and engaging in conversations about alternative design approaches can help create meaningful connections and a more just city.
