The Network Archives Design and Digital Culture invites applications for a Research Residency taking place over the three-month period September - November 2022. The residency programme aims to explore the potential of networked infrastructures for archival practices in design and digital culture.

The Bröhan Museum in Berlin is exhibiting a work by the German artist Hannah Höch (1889-1978) from the collection of Het Nieuwe Instituut.

Het Nieuwe Instituut, the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision and the International Institute of Social History (IISH) are offering three media makers a six-month residency. Every year, the multi-year Collecting Otherwise project works within an 'iteration'. In 2021, the focus was Seen/Unseen: Intersectional Feminism and Gender Queer in the National Collection of Het Nieuwe Instituut. For this iteration, Collecting Otherwise departs from both old, rediscovered archives and new acquisitions -- emphasising the importance of tracing the genealogy of Othering, and viewing different roles designated for female, queer, Black bodies and bodies of colour in the National Collection.

On Thursday 9 December, the Collecting Otherwise team and Working Group gathered for the last time this year to [softly] close the project's first iteration and look forward to what the new year will bring -- despite the evening's ever warm, caring and celebratory atmosphere, this is not a goodbye, but rather an introduction to the new and revived questions we will carry as the new iteration unfolds.

Het Nieuwe Instituut is teaming up with the Solar Biennale to host the event's first exhibition in September 2022. Founded by designers Marjan van Aubel and Pauline van Dongen, the Solar Biennale aims to foster new visions based on solar energy by highlighting potential future uses and developing technologies.

Het Nieuwe Instituut has acquired a design by Theo van Doesburg for the tiled floor in the De Vonk Holiday Home.

The Foundation for the Conservation of Contemporary Art (SBMK) has brought together 16 museums, including Het Nieuwe Instituut, for Collection Knowledge 2.0/Photography, which aims to preserve photography permanently and keep it publicly accessible.
