At the prestigious Milan design fair Salone del Mobile 2022, Het Nieuwe Instituut presents The Solar Energy Kiosk, a solar-powered installation developed by Rotterdam-based design studio Cream on Chrome.

On the 17th of February, the Network Archives Design and Digital Culture (NADD) hosted the event Archiving the Social at Het Nieuwe Instituut. The evening took Amsterdam's pioneering Digitale Stad (Digital City) project, revisited in the exhibition Designing the Social, as a departure point for discussing the relevance of preserving digital culture.

Together with guest speakers Lena van Tijen, Katažyna Jankovska, and Alexandra Barancova (for NADD), V2_'s archivist Arie Altena presented the development of electronic art and experiments at the intersection of art, technology and society over the past 40 years and discuss how young artists and researchers see this history.

In recent weeks, Rotterdam has seen a bright pink city stage become a reality on the roof of Het Nieuwe Instituut.

The institute's Setareh Noorani joined Thobile Chittenden, Fulco Treffers and Meghann Ormond for an evening exploring conflicting interests, systemic barriers and power dynamics in co-design.

Working Group member Hannah Dawn Henderson, artist in residence at the Rijksacademie, exhibited Blueprints, constructing the membrane of a temporary dwelling& an installation departing from working in Collecting Otherwise, in May. Henderson parallels architectural and archival practices that conceive and reinforce cultural propositions: value paradigms, social norms, and the narratives by which we codify our understanding of collective identity and social imagination.
