The archive makers

Meeting with stakeholders of the Room for the River programme, 21 September 2023. Photo Aad Hoogendoorn.

Archive makers are private designers and garden and landscape architecture offices, as well as local authorities and government departments. They play an important role in preserving and organising their archives. Their contribution is essential. Using the knowledge of others in the network, makers can store, describe and inventory material in a way that makes it more accessible for use or research. Their interest in participating in the network is the visibility of their archive, which can help with later incorporation by an archivist. In the network, they will find people and organisations with an understanding of archiving, researchers who can help to evaluate the archive, perhaps students who want to delve into their archive and designers who want to build on the history of a place.
