The archive managers

Nieuwe Instituut invited archive managers to discuss their experiences with archives in the field of garden and landscape architecture. Foto Aad Hoogendoorn.

Archive managers are repositories that collect both public and private archives, such as the Regional History Centres and municipal archive repositories, but also repositories that collect from a heritage or educational perspective, such as the Special Collections of Wageningen University, the Atria Knowledge Institute for Emancipation and Women’s History, the Stichting Erfgoedpark Batavialand [the Batavialand heritage park foundation] and the Nieuwe Instituut. We see the archivists as the backbone of the network, checking the garden and landscape archives against the collection policy and recording, preserving, selecting, cleaning, digitising and making them accessible. In addition, this group can train and advise the network on archive management, retrieval, selection and appraisal
