New Store research: The Regenerative Label

We asked the designers of the New Store products to rate their own creations as a first test of the New Store Regenerative Label.

These results are not product information. For that, we first need to calibrate the label. But together, the results show where regenerative practice is already happening and where the biggest problems are.

When we compare the 'maker scores' of the different products, these points stand out:

  • The highest average score is for end-of-life. The makers know how to make sure their products do not leave behind any unusable waste.
  • Logistics has the lowest average score.
  • The negative score for other-than-human life is offset by the positive score for humans, who work in logistics.
  • The low score shows that it is difficult to shape logistics processes that have a regenerative effect. Local material chains and networks are needed.
  • Transaction also scores low. We hope to change that with the New Store!
  • Finally, male makers score their products higher than female makers. Why is this? We need to check whether male and female makers score the same products differently. If so, we can adjust the label.

Do you have ideas for additions or adjustments to the label? Please let us know at newstore@nieuweinstituut.nl
