1m2 Flax Seed Kit by Crafts Council Nederland

The excessive mass production of the textile industry is a big cause of pollution and environmental degradation. The 1m2 flax kit was established by the Crafts Council Nederland and The Linen Project in an effort to regenerate small-scale, local textile production. Purchasing the 1m2 kit provides seeds for a square metre of flax, as well as guidance from experts through webinars and newsletters, from the sowing to the spinning process. Relish the process of turning your crops into actual fabric and enjoy the end result: entirely home-made linen textile! The 1m2 flax kit initiative also offers optional workshops to help you during the flax processing (€ 5,-) and spinning phases (€ 60,-).
Price: €40
Flax is an easy crop to tend to in the rainy climate of the Netherlands. It does not require additional watering or harmful pesticides and fertilisers. Every part of the plant can be used for a different purpose, and it stores CO2 while its deep roots feed the soil. By growing your own 1m2 flax you contribute to the restoration of a unique trade. The project also offers an eco-conscious alternative to large-scale production of polluting synthetic fibres and cotton crops that exploit the earth’s resources.
Important: To take part in the project, purchase the seeds and scan the QR-code on the packaging, in order to subscribe to the newsletters and webinars that guide you through the production process. You can sign up until 16 March.
