International Visitors Programme
In December 2021, Jaap Bakema Study Centre hosted Eeva-Liisa Pelkonen at Het Nieuwe Instituut. She gave a public seminar around new developments in exhibitions. The programme was accompanied with presentation by two TACK PhD students’ on-going projects undertaken at Het Nieuwe Instituut under the supervision of Dirk van den Heuvel (Het Nieuwe Instituut and TU Delft).
About Eeva-Liisa Pelkonen
Eeva-Liisa Pelkonen is a professor of architecture at Yale University. She is an expert in the theory and history of modern architecture, with a focus on the work of Finnish and Nordic architects, including Saarinen, Aalto and others. Pelkonen authored prize-winning books such as Achtung Architektur! Image and Phantasm in Contemporary Austrian Architecture (MIT Press/Graham Foundation, 1996) and Alvar Aalto: Architecture, Modernity and Geopolitics (Yale University Press, 2009). Her other publications include Kevin Roche, Architecture as Environment; Exhibit A, Exhibitions that Transformed Architecture, 1948-2000 (Phaidon, 2018). Pelkonen’s forthcoming books are Untimely Moderns: How Modern Architecture Discovered Future in the Past and Le Carré Bleu: Legendary Little Magazine of Modern Art, Architecture, and Urbanism.
