Report of the symposium COMPOS(T)ING. Regenerative Creative Practices
On 10 April 2025 the Nieuwe Instituut together with partner institutions and led by the Willem de Kooning Academy hosted the symposium Compos(t)ing: Regenerative Creative Practices. The one-day event brought together artists designers educators and researchers from the University of the Arts Utrecht (HKU), the Academy of Theatre and Dance (ATD) and the Centre for Applied Research for Art Design and Technology (CARADT) to explore how creative practices can foster a regenerative culture and economy in response to urgent climate challenges. Participants engaged in transdisciplinary dialogue to identify shared regenerative principles across alternative economic systems, creative practice and art education. The fully booked symposium demonstrated the urgencies and interest in cultivating practices that support both human and more-than-human life. In the run-up to possible next steps for the growing ecosystem around Compos(t)ing, a comprehensive report of the symposium offers key insights starting points and methods and is available for download.
