Het Nieuwe Instituut and the Creative Industries Fund NL announce the six design teams selected from their open call for the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. The open calls aim to promote knowledge and contribute to the development of research in the fields of architecture and urbanism. La Biennale takes place from 22 May to 21 November 2021.

As part of the Open Archive project, Het Nieuwe Instituut and the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision have selected artist/designer Oana Clitan, artist Guy Königstein and filmmaker Donna Verheijden to create new media works based on both institutions' openly accessible digital collections. The works are being presented publicly for the first time during Dutch Design Week.

Het Nieuwe Instituut is a partner within The Critical Visitor, a research project that investigates how heritage institutions can bring about new forms of inclusiveness and accessibility through their organisation, collections and exhibition policy. The project has received a ¬500,000 NWO Smart Culture grant. The five-year research project is being conducted by a consortium of fifteen cultural and scientific institutions.

From 4 October, two design drawings for Café Aubette from the archive of Theo van Doesburg will be shown in the exhibition Into the Night: Cabarets and Clubs in Modern Art at the Barbican Art Gallery in London. The loan of these drawings has been made possible only after research and conservation.
