To foster a better understanding of digital architecture, we conducted research into the digitisation of the design process and architectural practice, and what this means for Het Nieuwe Instituut as a collecting and managing institution. For Dutch Design Week (22 to 30 October), Network Archives Design and Digital Culture (NADD), a consortium of 40 Dutch institutions coordinated by Het Nieuwe Instituut, presents the exhibition Archives at Risk in the Microlab Hall in Eindhoven. Visitors can discover the richness and fragility of Dutch design heritage through the five very different personal archives - from Borre Akkersdijk, Hella Jongerius, Jason Page and Karen Huang, Lies Ros, and Emile Truijen - on display.

From 18 November 2022 to 9 April 2023, Het Nieuwe Instituut presents the nominated architect's submissions for the 2022 Architecture Prix de Rome in which Arna Mačkić, Dividual (Andrea Bit and Maciej Wieczorkowski), Lesia Topolnyk, and Studio KIWI (Kim Kool and Willemijn van Manen) respond to the theme Healing Sites. The nominees have been selected by an international jury.

IThe Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam presents a retrospective of the work of photographer and filmmaker Johan van der Keuken (1938-2001).

Initiated by the former Head of Research, Marina Otero Verzier, Het Nieuwe Instituut's Fellowship Programme plays a fundamental role in these platforms. Intended as a means of supporting and learning from various research initiatives and methodologies, the fellowship is ultimately an opportunity to rehearse other modes of thinking and doing.

With Europe amid an energy crisis, Het Nieuwe Instituut and The Solar Biennale make a timely investigation into solar design. The Energy Show - Sun, Solar and Human Power opened last weeekend at Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam. The exhibition, part of The Solar Biennale, revolves around the sun and its design possibilites and runs until 5 March 2023.

Nieuwe Instituut and Creative Industries Fund NL are launching an open call for proposals from (landscape) architects, urban planners and spatial researchers that will expose the invisible flows of materials, waste and labour that lie behind the exhibitions at the Venice Architecture Biennale. Mapping and visualising this metabolism can increase the insight and awareness needed to develop a more sustainable biennale that makes a positive contribution to the Venetian ecosystem.
