The Multiplicity of Other
Through the concept of Multiplicity of Other, Afaina de Jong presents a world of habits, customs, and values that should be part of dominant culture but are not. Instead of ignoring, controlling, or excluding it, embracing difference can enrich our cities, says De Jong. In Space of Other, she investigates the complexity, the methods, and the underlying values of another language with which this different world can become visible and applicable in urban planning and architecture.
In collaboration with designer and DJ InnaVisions, De Jong presents a playlist of music by artists exploring other worlds, spaces, and spiritualities. Music is considered an important language and a creative expression of the spatial complexity of metropolitan life; it can even be regarded as a spatial art discipline. The songs on the playlist range from contemporary jazz and beat productions to 1970s jazz and broken beats.
