Video Installation Assemblage: Joke Robaard and Camiel van Winkel
The Study Centre hosts the video installation _Assemblage, Archive Intersections no.5, _developed by artist and photographer Joke Robaard in collaboration with art historian Camiel van Winkel. In a video loop Robaard shows the various ways in which literature, newspapers and books are employed in fashion photography. Robaard's extensive image archive forms the basis for a contemplative look at the representation of the clothed body in printed media from 1980 to the present day.
On 10 January 2016 Joke Robaard and Camiel van Winkel presented their work at the Thursday Night event Fashion as Image at Het Nieuwe Instiutuut. Over the past few decades Robaard has assembled an extensive image archive consisting mainly of photographs from fashion magazines. Together with art historian Camiel van Winkel, she is making the archive accessible through research into the representation of the clothed body in print media. Although based on photographs from fashion magazines, the research is not concerned with fashion or fashion photography as such but rather with the principles of montage, assemblage and appropriation that are at work in our culture at large.
Please note that Assemblage is only accessible on request during the weekend due to closure of the Study Centre. Visitors can request a special viewing at the museum reception desk.
