Het Nieuwe Instituut invited visual artist Farida Sedoc to make an online contribution for _The Hoodie. _In the video tutorial that she made for this occasion, Sedoc shows how anyone can make a print for their hoodie. Try this at home!

Tutorial video for DIY hoodie printing by artist Farida Sedoc, Spring 2020.

Hey dear people!

Het Nieuwe Instituut has invited me to make this online contribution, bringing you some light in these difficult times.

For 20 years now, I've been designing and printing T-shirts. And while the T-shirt is my spring and summer go-to, the hoodie is my autumn and winter must-have. The ultimate garment for graphics, it's also a border between individual identity and society.

My love for hip hop ignited my passion for fashion.

Now I want to inspire you to share your message and visualise your emotions and thoughts through streetwear.

Before I screen print or send my own designs to my friends at More Color (shout out!), I make tests, samples or one-offs using this transfer technique. It's cheap, fast and gives relatively good results.

Using the transfer paper, you iron your image onto your hoodie. With a laser printer you need a heat press. With an inkjet printer you can use your iron at home, just like in the video. The important thing to remember is to mirror your image before printing. You also need to use different transfer papers for light and dark textiles.

So...Try this at home!

Keep your head up and remember: health is wealth!

Thanks,

HOSSELAER
