Het Nieuwe Instituut asked twelve Rotterdam-based designers and design studios for their visions of 'Living in Rotterdam in the year 2030'. The results will be exhibited at two prominent sites in Rotterdam in the weeks leading up to the 'Woonvisie 2030' referendum on 30 November 2016.

The first version of the design for the future skatepark on Westblaak in Rotterdam is complete. The designers refer to 'the ocean, the beach and the boardwalk'. What does this have to do with the future of the skatepark? We found out during the presentation on 2nd October 2013 in the pavilion at the Westblaak skatepark.

In 2000, a skate park opened along the central reservation of Rotterdam's Westblaak boulevard. It was the Netherlands' largest and most up-to-date. More than 13 years later, though, it's overdue for a revamp. Initiatives by the city have run aground, and The New Institute has been commissioned to supervise the process of devising a new design that will meet with broad public support.
