Open Archief has published a collection of essays exploring the creative possibilities of archival material.

Open Archief is offering three media makers a six-month residency to create a new, autonomous media work that makes use of the open, digital collections of three heritage institutions.

Halfway through their residencies, the selected artists are currently fully engaged in their research. Although they come from different disciplines, the theme of 'activism and archives' forms a common thread in their three projects.

Jessica de Abreu, Michiel Huijben and Femke Dekker are the three selected artists for Open Archief 2020-21. This year's focus is on a strong multidisciplinary vision for the creative reuse of archive material.

Three creative practitioners will be given the opportunity to create a new, autonomous media work within a six-month working period, using the public and digitized collections of the Nieuwe Instituut, Sound and Vision, and the International Institute of Social History.

As part of the Open Archief project, Nieuwe Instituut and the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision have selected three artists to create new media works based on both institutions' openly accessible digital collections. The works are being presented publicly for the first time during Dutch Design Week.

Three makers have an opportunity to devote seven months to creating new autonomous media work with the digital collections of the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision and the Nieuwe Instituut.
