Karim Fouad

Egyptian artist Karim Fouad created a digital commission for the Screen at the entrance of the New Institute.

What is digital reclamation, and what does it mean to interact with our intangible origins. What implications can a virtual repatriation have on the true ownership of heritage? Lost and Scanned is a speculative exploration of the use of digitised heritage. In this case, the British Museum’s open source library housing the Egyptian Collection. “It is a place of contemplation, where we insert ourselves in a liminal space, between the museum in market nations, and the source nations (heritage-rich countries). We find ourselves in a transitional dreamscape beyond the curated glass vitrines. But a long way from home.”
