The Heart of the Heart (2024) is an altarpiece dedicated to the relationship between networked technology and spirituality. In The Heart of the Heart, Teresa Fernández-Pello questions our faith in technological progress through an amalgamation of rhythmic lighting, sound, vibration and old electronic devices that have been taken apart, re-arranged and reconstructed to form intricate geometric patterns. By engaging in a process of deconstruction and reconstruction, the artist explores what it might mean to consider everyday technologies as spiritual tools and practices, and furthermore, how reflections on deep belief in technological progress can serve as a meditation on artistic practice in relation to society and technology.
