hYPER investigates the power dynamics that structure upskirting, a form of gendered, technology-mediated sexual violence. The work examines the visual hierarchy embedded in this act, framing upskirting as a surveillance practice enacted through cameras, secrecy, non-consent, and extraction.

Through performance and video installation, the binary roles of the seer and the seen are stretched, exchanged, and destabilised. Where upskirting relies on secrecy, asymmetrical visibility, and the absence of consent, hYPER inverts this logic by accelerating its dynamics and exposing the interdependence between bodies and cameras.

Using the queered gender performance of drag as an accelerative device, the body becomes hyper-visible while cameras are deliberately manipulated. The distinction between what is hidden and what is extracted begins to collapse.

hYPER—understood as hyper-visibility, hyper-gaze, and hyper-gender—seeks to interrupt the scripts that sustain digital gendered violence. The project asks whether exposure can be reclaimed as a queer strategy for rethinking consent and control online, revealing and subverting the visual regimes that make such acts possible.

otti Ferraris is a designer and researcher based in Rotterdam. Their research-led, multidisciplinary practice focuses on image construction through processes of capture, manipulation, and digital rendering, examining how systems of visibility shape representations of bodies within contemporary Western visual culture.

Focusing on non-consensual image circulation and online exposure, Ferraris analyses how technologies of looking regulate intimacy, gender, and desire, and how control over digital bodies is enacted. Through a queer lens, they develop alternative narratives of digital embodiment that challenge dominant regimes of visibility while addressing gendered digital violence and consent online.
