Audio/video installation, Victoria McKenzie, 2023
Join the conversation on decolonizing architecture with artist and researcher Victoria McKenzie as she shines a light on the under-recognized diversity of climates, cultures, and histories, especially within the Global South. Drawing inspiration from the book Habitat: Vernacular Architecture for a Changing Planet, Victoria's project, Annotations, serves as a platform for re-storying, re-framing, and reinterpreting the built environment.
Annotations offers a collaborative space where audiences are encouraged to contribute their own insights and perspectives alongside Victoria's annotations. By engaging with the book and adding their comments, visitors become active participants in the creation of new narratives in architecture and design. This inclusive approach not only amplifies diverse voices, but also fosters a deeper understanding of the complexities inherent in architectural practices worldwide. By embracing diverse perspectives and narratives, the project serves as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue and transformative change within the field of architecture.
