International Visitors Programme
At the end of August, the Nieuwe Instituut organised the International Visitors Programme: Young Architects. In cooperation with the Dutch embassies in Hungary, Poland and Ukraine, a total of seven young professionals were invited to the Netherlands: Luca Petranyi, Dorina Hajós and Lantos Balázs from Hungary; Zuzanna Mielczarek, Agnieszka Ptak-Wojciechowska and Aleksandra Wróbel from Poland; and Alisa Aleksandrova from Ukraine.
The three-day programme focused on social housing, its opportunities and challenges. The programme also explored the sub-themes of ecology and more-than-human life, the architecture of appropriation, and architecture for justice and equity. The Dutch context – in particular the cities of Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Eindhoven – proved to be a fertile ground for dialogue and exchange between Dutch practitioners and the visitors with their different backgrounds.
During the visit they delved deeply into Volume 65: Living Together_ with the editors, visited the Strijp-S area with René Erven, coordinator of the Architecture Centre Eindhoven, exchanged ideas with the Trudo housing corporation in Eindhoven, visited the IABR Nature of Hope exhibition at the Nieuwe Instituut with curator Hani Salih, and attended work sessions with various researchers, artists, architects and historians such as Alina Lupu, WORKNOT!, René Boer, Dirk Sijmons and Michelle Provoost.
