International Visitors Programme
Throughout September 2022, the International Visitors Program hosted the To Be Determined – Trojan Horse Cell (Alfred Marasigan, Clara Balaguer, Czar Kristoff, and Isola Tong), a group of loosely organized cultural workers researching forms of archiving, in Rotterdam.
After a year of meeting digitally and forming the working group of the Collecting Otherwise project of the Research department of the Nieuwe Instituut, the TBD-THC cell was invited to meet in person to carry out their research activities linked to political action, diasporic belonging, decentring through queer resistance and joyful haunting. With visits to the Depot Boijmans van Beuningen, Natural History Museum, BAK (Basis for Actuele Kunst), Huis Sonneveld, to name a few planned encounters, their month-long visit attempted various forms of collecting and activating the (im)material at the threshold of Dutch archives and libraries. Their findings were translated into various public events with the aim of opening up their newly-formed archives, constituting their research of a "foreign" landscape according to "local" desires, into searchable and navigable entities. You can read more about these activities here.
This project is a part of the Collecting Otherwise working group at the Nieuwe Instituut. Portions of its month-long program have been carried out in institutional consortium with Printroom (Rotterdam) and Page Not Found (The Hague).
