International Visitors Programme
From 30 June to 3 July 2022, the (A)WAKE Foundation brought the festival New Radicalisms – but... where are you really from? back to the Zomerhofkwartier in Rotterdam Noord. The festival invited various artists, performers, designers and thinkers with roots in the West Asian and North African regions, bringing them together in Rotterdam. Nabil Canaan (LE) and Adam Kucharski and Harshini Karunaratne (SL/PE) joined the programme as part of the Nieuwe Instituut’s International Visitors Programme.
Adam Kucharski gave the festival’s opening performance. He is part of the HaRaKa platform and divides his time between Abu Dhabi and the USA. The A(WAKE) Foundation, in collaboration with the HaRaKa platform, originally invited Harshini Karunaratne, but due to her visa problems her partner Kucharski was asked to perform. He is also part of the HaRaKa Platform programme.
Nabil Canaan is the director and co-founder of the Lebanese platform STATION. Its programme focuses on contemporary visual arts and live performances, as well as art from SWANA (Southwest Asia and North Africa), with an emphasis on social projects. STATION encourages the activation of civil movements and critical thinking.
