International Visitors Programme
Between 5 and 9 June 2023, Philipp Neumann visited the Netherlands as a prelude to the collaboration between MZIN and Nieuwe Instituut during the Leipzig Book Fair 2024, for which the Netherlands & Flanders regions have been appointed Guest Countries.
In order to familiarise himself with the current issues, wishes and challenges of the publishing sector in the Netherlands, Neumann met with creative professionals from Valiz, Graphic Matters, Subjective Editions and Roma Publications, as well as several designers who are actively involved in the organisation of publishing or book fairs. He also visited relevant exhibitions such as Palace of Typographic Masonry at the Grote Kerk (Breda), Zines by Ari Marcopoulos at Enter Enter (Amsterdam) and artistic publishing spaces such as Printroom in Rotterdam and Page Not Found in The Hague.
Philipp Neumann, born in 1975, trained as a media designer and studied typography at the HGB Leipzig (class of Günter Karl Bose). He founded MZIN in 2008 (as a diploma project at the HGB Leipzig) and currently works as a designer, writer, teacher and curator.
MZIN is a (self-initiated and -organised) bookshop and project space founded in 2008. It began as a place to sell and display self-published and artistic material and now serves many disciplines: magazines, catalogues and books on design, art, architecture, photography and pop culture. It is also a place for presentations, book launches, exhibitions and talks, and has been located in the Museum of Fine Arts since 2022.
