International Visitors Programme
Het Nieuwe Instituut and DutchCulture jointly put together a visitors' schedule for Meredith Carruthers and Deniz Ova, respectively curator and director of the 2014 Istanbul Design Biennial. Carruthers came to the Netherlands as part of Het Nieuwe Instituut's International Visitors' Programme, Ova through DutchCulture's counterpart programme. In a bid to get to know the Dutch design scene better, they spoke with numerous designers, including Joost Grootens, Formafantasma and Experimental Jetset, in Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Amsterdam and elsewhere. Carruthers and Ova said they found their visit to the Design Academy Eindhoven inspiring because of the extensive attention paid there to research and new teaching models. The same subjects were also discussed during their visit to Het Nieuwe Instituut in relation to a new method of exhibition display.
