Purpose of visit

Writer and curator Lou Stoppard visits the Netherlands in the context of _The Hoodie_, an exhibition and public programme that will take place in 2019 at Het Nieuwe Instituut. The Hoodie, curated by Stoppard, examines the role that the garment plays in culture, fashion and politics. In the exhibition, the historical background and current significance of the both controversial and fashionable 'sweater-with-capuchon', which can be regarded as the last Western political garment, will be discussed.

During her stay in the Netherlands, Stoppard will meet with various staff members of Het Nieuwe Instituut to further develop the exhibition. She will speak with artist and photographer Joke Robaard, employees of the Nederlands Fotomuseum and photographer Ari Versluis (Exactitudes). Stoppard will also visit the Thursday Night Live! programme _New Approaches to production and consumption_.
