Purpose of visit

Goodwin, Ciriacidis and di Carlo will speak at the 1:1 Symposium, held in conjunction with Het Nieuwe Instituut's exhibition 1:1 Period Rooms. Goodwin will talk about inviting architects to design 1:1 installations for the exhibition Sensing Spaces for the purpose of making visitors aware of the space around them. Ciriacidis will discuss the 1:1 model of the German chancellor's bungalow he installed in a pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. Di Carlo will report on her research into processes of displacement in relation to collection, preservation and exhibition methods. During their visit to the Netherlands, Ciriacidis and di Carlo will also visit the Piet Zwart Institute, the MVRDV architectural office and Galerie Vivid. The three guests will have the opportunity to expand their professional networks while engaging in professional discussion and knowledge exchange.

Bio

Kate Goodwin is head of the architecture department and Drue Heinz Curator at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Savvas Ciriacidis is an architect and cofounder of the Ciriacidis Lehnerer architecture office in Zurich. Together with Alex Lehnerer he curated Bungalow Germania, the German contribution to the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale. Tina di Carlo is a former curator at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and a PhD candidate at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design.
