International Visitors Programme
Art historian and curator Claudia Banz from Germany has been invited to visit the Netherlands as part of the International Visitor Programme. Among her activities here is a lecture on 4 December at the 2014 Fashion Symposium.
During the 2014 Fashion Symposium the Dutch fashion world will discuss how it can remain internationally successful. In addition, Banz will learn about the current state of affairs in Dutch fashion and developments in the area of sustainability during her stay. She will also visit Het Nieuwe Instituut to discuss opportunities for collaboration and to see the exhibitions.
NB Claudia Banz expressed great enthusiasm for the work of Elisa van Joolen, a finalist for the New Material Award whose work was on view in the exhibition of the same name in Het Nieuwe Instituut, inviting her to participate in the Fast Fashion exhibition, which opens this spring at Hamburg's Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe.
ABOUT CLAUDIA BANZ
Claudia Banz is an art historian, curator, researcher and head of the Department of Art and Design at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (MKG) in Hamburg. She also teaches history of art, fashion and design at several universities and academies of art.
She was curator of various international and interdisciplinary exhibitions, among them _Unresolved Matters: Social Utopias Revisited _(2009) at the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, and of symposiums such as Social Design: History, Practice, Perspectives. (2014) at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe. For this museum she also compiled the new, permanent exhibition about design from 1850 to the present.
She is a co-editor and author of Dressed. Art en Vogue and is currently working on a study and exhibition about Fast Fashion.
