Purpose of visit

Christine Boyer will take part in the Total Space Research workshop at Het Nieuwe Instituut. Part of the Jaap Bakema Study Centre's multiyear research project on structuralism, the workshop will investigate the interplay of architecture, urban planning, anthropology and systems theory in the context of structuralism's international ramifications. Boyer will also give a talk at Het Nieuwe Instituut on the open society and the relationship between architecture, planning and democracy in the 20th century. During her stay in the Netherlands, she will also visit the OMA/AMO and MVRDV architectural offices.

Bio

Christine Boyer is William R. Kenan Jr. professor of architecture and urbanism at Princeton University, with which she has been affiliated since 1991. Her interests include the history of the city, city planning, preservation planning, and computer science, subjects on which she frequently publishes and lectures around the world. Before coming to Princeton, she was professor and chair of the Pratt Institute's City and Regional Planning Program and taught at Cooper Union, Columbia University and Harvard University. Her book Le Corbusier: homme de letters (Princeton Architectural Press, 2010) won an award from Princeton's art and archaeology department.
