Amado Alfadni (EG/SD)

During Amado Alfadni’s visit, an exhibition of his work entitled Askari Soldiers was presented at Framer Framed (from 3 to 11 October). Askari Soldiers consists of edited digital photographs and images from colonial archives through which Alfadni visualises his Sudanese heritage. At the official opening on 5 October, Alfadni took part in a digital discussion with Jay Pather, artistic director of the Afrovibes Festival. Alfadni’s work was also shown at the Frascati Theatre Amsterdam (2 to 5 October) and at the Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht (on 12 October) as part of the Afrovibes Festival.

In collaboration with the Keti Koti Theatre, Alfadni contributed to the Afrovibes programme on the history of slavery with a talk show, an exhibition of his work and a theatre piece. Alfadni also gave a talk at De Balie in Amsterdam on the North African diaspora and Black identity, which was moderated by Maarten van Hinte.

On 13 October, the Thami Mnyele Foundation organised a networking event for Amado Alfadni with stakeholders from their network (Dutch Culture, the Amsterdam Museum, Framer Framed, Nieuw CBK Zuidoost, and the University of Amsterdam). During his stay in the Netherlands, Alfadni also made guided visits to exhibitions at the Allard Pierson Museum, the Eye Film Museum, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden and the Amsterdam City Archives.

Amado Alfadni is an Egyptian-born Sudanese visual artist and curator.
