International Visitors Programme
W’AHU is a new magazine developed by the Dutch creative agency Cookies in collaboration with a number of queer-identifying creatives (visual artists, stylists, photographers, writers and activists) based in Accra, Ghana, where it was launched in January 2024. For the European launch of the first issue of W’AHU, Cookies invited cultural producers Efia Serwah and Abraham Tettey, who together with Cookies’ Federico Martelli and Colin Keays form the core editorial team, to represent the magazine.
The magazine launch at KIOSK Rotterdam on 7 June was attended by 40 people – a warm and enthusiastic audience that contributed to a lively and engaging atmosphere. The magazine launch was followed by a lively discussion, highlighting shared experiences and challenges within the queer community. Participants praised the event for its role in building a supportive network among queer creatives in the Netherlands.
In addition, Cookies organised several informal and studio visits to maximise the impact of their trip. They visited the Rijksakademie and Rietveld Academie Degree Show in Amsterdam, where guests could see the work of emerging artists and discuss contemporary art education and practice, as well as potential collaborations. They also hosted a launch of the magazine at Savvy Contemporary in Berlin.
