Het Nieuwe Instituut, in collaboration with AIR, is organising a lecture by the versatile designer Petra Blaisse (Inside Outside) on the original design for the Museumpark. The Museumpark in Rotterdam is in the news. The proposal for a new Collection Building for Museum Boijmans van Beuningen has triggered debate about whether the building should be constructed in the park. That has prompted a critical look at the park's design and its significance for the architectural history of Rotterdam. Het Nieuwe Instituut and AIR therefore decided to illuminate the original design in a careful manner and to investigate its relevance as an urban space within the tradition of contemporary landscape design.

This event will examine Bjarne Mastenbroek's New Pavilion as, anmong other things, an expression of rage. The Pavilion will host live music, and novelist and critic Matthew Stadler will present his three-month consideration of the Pavilion's residency on the side-lawn of Het Nieuwe Instituut.

Take part in a special children's workshop on Wednesday 18 June about 'building (miniature) yurts'. The New Pavilion 2014 - Yourtopia by SeARCH consciously refers to traditional nomadic forms of living such as the yurt.

What is the minimum needed to achieve a maximum quality of life? Architect Bjarne Mastenbroek went back to this fundamental question in his design for The New Pavilion 2014 - Yourtopia by SeARCH. During this special evening, Mastenbroek will unfold his vision for the pavilion. On invitation by Mastenbroek photographer Iwan Baan and Finnish architect and artist Sami Rintala will reflect on his position from their own perspective.

A festive evening on Wednesday, May 28th marks the opening of The New Pavilion 2014 - Yourtopia by SeARCH and the exhibition WOOD: the cyclical nature of materials, sites and ideas. The official opening of the exhibition and pavilion takes place at 19:00. You are welcome to view the exhibition WOOD from 5:30pm onwards.
