Yourtopia

What is the minimum needed to achieve a maximum quality of life? Architect Bjarne Mastenbroek went back to this fundamental question in his design for The New Pavilion 2014 - Yourtopia by SeARCH. During this special evening, Mastenbroek will unfold his vision for the pavilion. On invitation by Mastenbroek photographer Iwan Baan and Finnish architect and artist Sami Rintala will reflect on his position from their own perspective.

Bjarne Mastenbroek - SeARCH

In 2002, Bjarne Mastenbroek founded SeARCH, and with director, Uda Visser, has been successfully designing projects in the Netherlands and abroad. SeARCH stands for Stedenbouw en ARCHitectuur (Urban Planning & Architecture). SeARCH's focus is on architecture and its relationship to its surroundings. As Dutch architects, they are well aware of the scarcity of land and believe strongly in using this resource more intelligently in order to give 'nature' more space to survive. This sets the stage to create innovative, original and unexpected design solutions. Research into new building methods, products & materials is a natural extension of their work.

Iwan Baan

Photographer Iwan Baan travelled around the world for a year taking pictures of how people live. That resulted in an impressive series of images depicting some highly remarkable forms of housing in unexpected places, brought together in his latest publication, entitled '52 Weeks, 52 Cities'. A hallmark of the visual language of Iwan Baan is his concern for the close relationship between man and architecture. Baan is one of the most important architecture photographers in the world today.

Sami Rintala

Sami Rintala (born 1969) is an architect and an artist, with a long merit list after finishing his architect studies in Helsinki in 1999. He established architect office Casagrande & Rintala in 1998, which produced a series of acknowledged architectural installations around the world during the next five years until 2003. In 2008, Rintala started a new architect office with Icelandic architect Dagur Eggertsson, called Rintala Eggertsson Architects. His works combine architecture with critical thinking of society, nature and the real tasks of an architect.
