The State of Eindhoven
TU Eindhoven / State of Eindhoven seminar findings
Students from Eindhoven University of Technology worked with the State of Eindhoven team, DATAstudio-style, from 21 April to 23 June to gather material for a seminar on how data relate to the reality of life in the city. The results of their research have been posted online.
The seminar took place at the university and looked at whether "smart city" discussion and practice are adequately addressing problems in society. Under the supervision of assistant professor Sukanya Krishnamurthy, eight master's students from the Urbanism and Urban Architecture course conducted a concrete search to determine local residents' needs and how available data are and are not being used to address them.
The students interviewed local residents and representatives of public and private institutions in the Eindhoven neighbourhoods of Woenselse Heide and De Tempel. The conversations touched on four subject areas : connectedness with other residents and the neighbourhood; the role of community centres; feelings of safety; and growing gaps between the young and old and between different population groups. Interview material, videos, and a blog discussing the conclusions are available here.
