We Need to Talk About Computing #2
Nieuwe Instituut and LI-MA, the platform for media art, are organising two in-depth public discussions in the light of their joint exhibition REBOOT: Pioneering Digital Art. In the two-part event We Need to Talk About Computing, we explore the memory of digital culture, issues of the day and possible visions of the future. In this second event, the art historian, writer and curator Nina Knaack and the artist duo Driessens & Verstappen do the talking, under the guidance of the designer and media artist Florian van Zandwijk.
14 March 2024 18:30 - 20:00
The discussion will focus on the ways in which people collaborate with machines and whether computers and programs have ‘an eye for art’. How much confidence do people have in their own qualities, in each other’s qualities and in the capabilities of technology? Are they right? Can we imagine a mutual collaboration that benefits both humans and machines? And can we create something beautiful together?
Driessens & Verstappen
The REBOOT exhibition presents a series of three-dimensional works by Driessens & Verstappen that have been created by leaving the decision-making in the successive steps of a design process to a computer program.
Nina Knaack
The work of the art historian and writer Nina Knaack mainly focuses on the fields of digital art and crypto art. According to her, today’s technology is leading to a new art historical era.
