The second edition of the After Summer School took place last October, offering a four-day programme of city classes scattered across Rotterdam. A wide variety of makers, thinkers and organisations shared their ideas for changing the city. Watch the recap video to relive those four days of conversations, exchanges, experiments and insights.

The After Summer School is an initiative of the New Academy and philosopher Rosi Braidotti that continues to collectively develop the concept of a city–based Curriculum for Change. The school comprises a series of classes, talks, workshops and encounters that showcase and explore a multifaceted, pluralistic, inclusive and post–disciplinary approach to the city.
This year’s programme was centred on the theme Elements of Peace, exploring ways of learning that foster peace through empathy, curiosity, imagination, listening, resistance and resilience. The programme aimed to strengthen social cohesion and create a shared sense of security for all.
A wide variety of partners
During the After Summer School, the city of Rotterdam becomes a classroom. For the 2025 edition, visitors were taken to various city locations, including community gardens, cafés, cultural centres, clubs and supermarkets, the City Hall, Brienoord Island and the Nieuwe Instituut. The programme consisted of classes provided by (A)Wake x Learning Palestine, Afrikaanderwijk Coöperatie, AMPFEMININE, Di Fang & Colette Aliman, DRIFT x Rotterdam City Council, Emer Beamer, James Parnell, Journal Safar, Loom, Miriam Rasch, Niels Spaans, OMI, Rosi Braidotti, Stine Jensen, Stadspark West, Varia, Verhalenhuis Belvédère, WaterSchool by Studio Makkink & Bey, Willemijn Lofvers, and Zoöp x Convivium.
