Repositioning Architecture in the Digital critically explores the interplay between architecture and digital culture since the 1970s.

Sonneveld House is not only remarkable in terms of its modern design and luxurious and comfortable interior. It was also designed as a "healthy home" for mind and body. A new audio tour, created in response to the coronavirus pandemic, sheds fresh light on this innovative design by architects Brinkman and Van der Vlugt.

Het Nieuwe Instituut and the City of Rotterdam have commissioned the Polder of Babel - a community of learning exploring the super-diverse city in the Antropocene. The project, by the Independent School for the City, is Rotterdam's parallel programme for Who is We? - the Dutch contribution to the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale.

Catalogue accompanying the eponymous exhibition Art on Display 1949-69, a collaboration between the Gulbenkian Museum in Porto and the Nieuwe Instituut.

Six progressive, post-war exhibition designs by architects illustrate how design explicitly shape the relationship between artwork and viewer. The dozens of paintings and sculptures displayed in the reconstructions are from the collections of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon. Pieces from these collections have never been shown in the Netherlands before.

Three creative practitioners will be given the opportunity to create a new, autonomous media work within a six-month working period, using the public and digitized collections of Het Nieuwe Instituut, the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision (Sound and Vision) and the International Institute of Social History (IISH). The selected artists receive a working grant of ¬7,800. Deadline for the proposals is the 30th of October at 17:00 (CET).

In Sonneveld House, designer Gijs Bakker and poet K. Schippers present combinations of jewellery and poetry selected especially for this exhibition from their extensive oeuvres. The result is an environment in which visitors can make new connections and entertain alternative interpretations.

Making and keeping digital information accessible in a sustainable way involves major challenges, including the ongoing development of media and technology and the wide variety of software formats, file formats and information carriers used. Het Nieuwe Instituut therefore commissioned research studies of two strategies for keeping files readable and usable: migration and emulation.
