(Un)Authorised: Alternative Records of the Built Environment
7 October 2026 - 24 October 2026
For the second time, the Nieuwe Instituut will be the main venue for the Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam’s Immersive Media Programme. Inspiration for this year’s festival has been drawn from the location: the institute’s Re-Centre. The works on display offer alternative, multivocal and occasionally idiosyncratic approaches to recording and archiving architecture.
The Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) considers new technologies, such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), to be a logical next step in the representation of architecture, and therefore an integral part of the programme.
(Un)Authorised explores how scale models, films, photographs, personal stories and social media shape our understanding of architecture. This presentation brings together immersive works that expose and challenge dominant archival practices. By re-examining archival material and proposing alternative archiving methods, the participating artists address the central question: what makes an architectural document?
