The World Around Summit 2022
10 June 2022 - 11 June 2022
As part of Rotterdam Architecture Month, Het Nieuwe Instituut and international architecture and design platform The World Around present A Weekend of Architecture's Now, Near, Next. The two-day programme features In Focus: Precarity, the joint conference on design in crisis areas, on 11 June. Then writers and architects explore the role, relevance and future of architecture criticism on 12 June, and Aric Chen, director of Het Nieuwe Instituut, talks to former directors of the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAi) about the changes that have taken place in the architectural world.
The World Around
For its annual summits, The World Around collects the preceding year's most talked-about projects in architecture, spatial design, ecology and social issues. The current climate crisis now forces us, more than ever, to think, imagine and shape the world differently. Visitors are introduced to the 'now, near and next' of contemporary design, and the high-profile and up-and-coming architects and designers involved in this. Speakers from all over the world present their recent and ongoing projects in the field of (urban) architecture and the (designed) living environment. They reflect on groundbreaking ideas, critical approaches and visionary investigations, working methods and techniques.
Het Nieuwe Instituut was co-organiser of The World Around Summit 2022, a joint production in collaboration with the international design platform The World Around and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. Watch videos of the event here.
