Open Archive 3.0
Daria Kiseleva, Remco Torenbosch and duo Alice Wong & Simo Tse each present a new media work for this third edition of Open Archive, based on the open digital collections of Sound and Vision, Nieuwe Instituut, and the International Institute of Social History.
Open Archive 3.0. Video Bram van der Giessen and Eva Langerak.
New stories have arisen from this heritage: about a Cantonese radio programme for Chinese immigrants; about the way in which imagination manifests itself in archive images of social movements and carnival celebrations; and about the origins of the communist party in Indonesia.
Opening up digital, royalty-free collections for creative re-use yields new and surprising stories for both makers and institutions. It also provides insight into the user-friendliness and accessibility of collections, and into the technical and copyright implications of re-use. Nieuwe Instituut and Sound & Vision are working together with the International Institute of Social History to stimulate the creative re-use of open, digital heritage collections.
Artists Alice Wong & Simo Tse, Remco Torenbosch and Daria Kiseleva were selected for the Open Archive 3.0 project following an open call.
