The Future Makers! exhibition is suitable for children aged 4 to 12. Children must always be accompanied by an adult (over 18). We recommend that younger children do the activities together with an adult. Children aged 8 and over can do them independently in the presence of an accompanying adult.
Tickets Children under the age of 18 have free admission to the institute, including the Future Makers! exhibition. Adults pay the standard admission fee. Admission is free if you have a Museumcard or a Rotterdampas. Family Members of the Nieuwe Instituut enjoy free admission to the museum as well as additional benefits.
School and after-school care visits Schools and after-school care groups can book a Detour (museum tour) or a programme around Future Makers! or other exhibitions we have on display. For more information, please contact us at boekingen@nieuweinstituut.nl.
Directions to Future Makers! The exhibition is on the third floor. You can access this floor by lift or ramp. Please note that the lift has a maximum capacity of 3 people.
Wheelchairs Nieuwe Instituut is easily accessible for wheelchairs, rollators and mobility scooters. All the galleries and the Study Centre are accessible by lift and ramp. Nieuwe Instituut has a wheelchair for visitors with a disability.
Nieuwe Instituut has parking places for visitors with disabilities. You can also find an overview of car parks that are reserved for wheelchair users on the website of the municipality of Rotterdam.
Pushchairs On the ground floor there is a special area to leave your pushchair. You can ask our colleagues at the front desk to show you the designated area. Pushchairs can also be taken up to the third floor as long as there is enough space for other visitors.
Toilets and baby changing facilities All toilets in the institute are accessible to everyone regardless of sex, gender identity or gender expression. Nieuwe Instituut has a wheelchair accessible toilet on the ground floor. There is a baby changing facility on the ground floor, next to the café.
Nieuwe Café The café has highchairs for children.
In the case of specific allergies, you can ask the Nieuwe Café staff about the ingredients used in the menu items.
Triggers Depending on the current exhibition programme, visitors to the Nieuwe Instituut are sometimes confronted with large amounts of information in text and images, accompanied by lights, sounds, vivid images and smells. Visitors can ask our Hospitality team members for an up-to-date assessment of potential triggers.
During certain events, such as the FamilieFest, low-stimulus environments are provided.
Guide dogs Guide dogs are welcome in the Nieuwe Instituut.
Accidents and emergencies In the event of an accident resulting in injury, our Hospitality staff can help. Each member of staff has received emergency training and can be identified by their coat. They can be found in the exhibition galleries, in the public areas of the museum building and at the front desk.
Parking The Museumpark car park is located opposite the Nieuwe Instituut. Other car parks in Rotterdam can be found on this parking map. You can park for free at Transferium Rotterdam Kralingse Zoom, from where you can take metro line A, B or C to the Eendrachtsplein metro station (travel time: 11 minutes).
