Enter Residency 2022 Designing the Message of the Medium
For this residency, artists Yu-Ching Chiang and TING.S were selected from our open call Designing the Message of the Medium. This open call asked: How would you redesign the tools, visual design and interactions of Enter, in order to create and alter intimate, human-focused online interaction in the platform?
Yu-Ching Chiang and TING.S are working on a web-based geographical coordinates system video chat room with one of Enter's developers and creative coder Ibo Ibelings. They question the necessity of geographical and body awareness while we perceive and interact with and within the digital space. The ultimate aim will be to open up a dialogue about the redesign of alternative tools for future internet-based conversations.
The finished results of their residency will be showcased live on March 17 at the Thursday Night Live! event: Locating Enter: Where are You?
Ying-Ting Shen a.k.a TING.S and Yu-Ching Chiang are cross-disciplinary artists and designers, currently based in Rotterdam. Their works investigate both tangible and virtual space through new media, spatial sculpture, and interactive installation.

Enter Residency 2021: Shiyun Deng
Artist Shiyun Deng was Enter's first online resident, in August 2021. Deng worked closely with one of Enter's developers, Marianne Noordzij. The work was called It Is Finally Possible to Be Here With You 24/7. Deng's project responded to the current situation of online video calling embedded in everyday life due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In her work, she asks: how does video calling change the perception of being present? What emotions does it bring about in the body?
Enter's developer Marianne Noordzij programmed an ongoing 24-hour stream in Deng's 'room'. In Deng's virtual world, the audience observes Deng from all sorts of different places - at home, cycling through a tunnel, working out in a gym. While being there, Shiyun chats with the visitor about the notion of being able to always be online from anywhere.
Shiyun Deng a.k.a. DJ USB (* 1994 CN) is an artist, graphic designer and DJ who considers her practice as interfacing through various agencies. That often leads her to digital/phonetic object and printed matter.
