Collecting Otherwise
The Working Group as Intersectional Body of Collective Knowledge
Collecting Otherwise engages with an intersectional working group that questions the monovocal archival gaze using a work-in-progress method. We see collaborating as an invitation to be transparent in how those in an institution form a network with those having other affiliations, while also being aware that we, the group, carry multiplicities - which in themselves become the pressure points of power struggles. We aim to create links of knowledge within the institution (as we all carry many references and lived experiences useful for this project).
Collective knowledge is produced in and around the working group meetings, through a multi-scalar approach to the material and through formulating the subsequent methodological and critical questions. The inquiring voices of the transdisciplinary group members originate in their personal, theoretical and artistic backgrounds. From its beginnings, the project has intentionally aimed to gather such a variety of specialists, decentring the usual valuation of knowledge and affinity in institutional projects.
