Share This! Art on social networks
On social media, where it's all about the power of the image, the boundaries between high art and popular culture are becoming increasingly blurred. Which forms of online expression are valuable enough to be collected and preserved, from the perspective of a museum? These were some of the issues discussed at the public event on 5 February 2015.
Share This! took place as part of _1:1 Period Rooms_, and was organised in collaboration with Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Beeld en Geluid (Sound & Image) and Upload Cinema. Moderator Dagan Cohen (Upload Cinema) presented the latest artistic trends on social media and talked to artist Constant Dullaart, designer and museum director Mieke Gerritzen (MOTI), Margriet Schavemaker (Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam), Marloes de Vries (Showroom MAMA) and the audience.
Programme series Share This!
The explosion of creativity op social networks and the issue of how museums should react to it, was the key issue in the _Share This! _programme series. Which artists, designers and image makers are leaders in the field of social networks and the digital space? What are the key trends and which new forms of work call for further investigation? Dagan Cohen (artist, media entrepreneur and founder of Upload Cinema) took the audience on a journey through digital masterpieces from Tumblr, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat and led a discussion with makers, curators, critics and the audience.
Share This! is a collborative project invollving a large group of international scouts and (online) curators. But the audience can take part too. The event's organisers set up a blog specially for this project in which everyone is invited to add their suggestions. Which social media artists and projects should be let in to the museum?
