Opening IABR 2024: Nature of Hope
Nieuwe Instituut is the main location of the 11th International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam (IABR). The 2024 edition, Nature of Hope, will begin with a festive opening programme. The official opening by Said Kasmi, Rotterdam’s alderman for education, culture and events, will be followed by an opening performance, and the exhibition is free to view. There will be various activities and music, drinks and snacks in the foyer.

Nature of Hope
In this year’s edition of the biennale, the curators bring together dozens of architects, researchers, designers and writers. Each in their own way explores how ‘hopeful’ architecture and spatial design can contribute to the regeneration of other-than-human life, biodiversity, the restoration of ecological balance and the promotion of social connectedness. With their new perspectives, working methods and use of materials, they anticipate future architecture, urban development and landscape design. How can spatial designers contribute to the survival of humanity on Earth, in a healthy and reciprocal relationship with other life, the planet and local material cultures?
About the IABR
The International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam stimulates design research within the disciplines of architecture, landscape and urban planning. Every two years, the IABR presents an extensive public cultural programme that celebrates the architectural imagination and its designs for the humanitarian, spatial, economic and social consequences of the changing climate.
